Support Chen BangJun Andie!!!!

Yesterday was a really eventful day. Firstly, it was my last day as an intern at TD Farics. Leaving a workplace for the last time is never easy for me, I guess it isnt for many as well. Being my last day, I sat down to chat more with my colleagues and before leaving, took a last walk around the office. Goodbye TD Fabrics. Goodbye internship. Hello school. Yes school starts next tomorrow... I just realized that recently I have been doing stuff I would never have imagined doing... Like going to a getai and like yesterday acting like a fan to support my fan on his quest to conquer Star Search! Wow I never knew he's been working out so much recently until he has such a HOT body now! Good job BangJun! Haha. These are some photos from the Star Search roadshow yesterday. I realize that, after attending the roadshow, fans can really be very weird. In particular this guy who was unfortunately for me next to me. Thanks JX for this photo.Even before the show started, he was humming and singing to the tune of the Star Search. And when the comperes were standing at the side waiting to start hosting, he kept yelling to them to get their signatures. Not only that, no matter which contestant went onstage, he'd shout their names (ALL OF THEM) and ask all for their autographs and tell them to "jia you". It was hilarious when one of the compere couldnt take it and actually told the contestant "Bu yao guan ta. Ta MEI CHI dou zhe yang de". He was SOOOOO prominent that the cameraman simply HAD TO catch him on tape - directly in his face (yes just him alone). And boy was he so excited when the camera was on him that he put his face right into the camera and posed. It was damn funny how when they had games and asked for people from the floor to come out, he and another guy were constantly overlooked. The compere was like "Hui shen me zhe li de nan ren dou zhen me hai xiu" when they were frantically waving their hands to get onstage. Haha. It's good to know "stars" personally to get such a photo like this that fans normally wouldnt be able to. This was taken just before the contestants had to gather for a final group shot before the end of the roadshow. Poor BangJun he had to pose a minute for us (JX and I) to take the photos as we shouted across for him to pose for us. Haha.
Finally, after that BangZhi dragged us to Ngee Ann City for the Silk Air Monopoly challenge but only he participated in it in the end.

1st Getai Experience!

Dragged by Charlene to accompany her to go for the 881 (a local movie directed by Royston Tan) roadshow, we went to grab dinner before going. Thinking that the Claypot Rice that we were going to have is nice. I decided to take a picture of it before digging in. Oh man what a complete disappointment it was. People, do not eat the claypot rice from the Haig Road food market. Anyway, as you might have heard, the 13 of August 2007 is the first day the 7th month ghost festival to Chinese believers. How could I not then capture this tradition of burning joss sticks and offerings along the pathways below HDB flats? It was surprising however to witness these young guys without any adults there burning joss sticks. I swear they are having initiation rights to a gang hahaha. I guess it really can be considered a tradition that perhaps is dying out (burning below blocks) because apparently it is no so common in the newer estates in Singapore. Anyone has any take on this do enlightent me so drop a comment about this. Interesting... Anyway, walking towards the getai stage (yes I only found out late yesterday that it was being held at a getai stage), visually seeing its vibrant colours and the beat of the guas actually made me a bit excited to reach there! This is the first thing we saw when we reached there. OMG it was flooded with people!!!! No joke there were easily 500 people there (mostly the AHs lah). After squeezing our way through and finding a relatively decent standing spot, we settled in and was immediately absorbed into the sheer experience of the getai. I stood there for a while... looking... thinking about how sad it is that this business is getting less and less popular. I never thought I would ever say this about getai but I really hope that the tradition can run as long. Song after song, performance after performance, I actually found myself moving to the GROOOOOVE of the hokkien guas and enjoying myself. Check out the crowd above! It's quite sad that the crowd itself was rather dead. Just having sheer numbers definitely do not make the mood. Can you imagine me, Kelvyn Li, actually being one of the most active participant there? haha. Anyway, apparently the queen of getai was there (i think she is also part of the cast of 881) and thats her - the one in tube, and these 4 girls are some champion from Malaysia. Finally out came the cast of 881, which we originally came to see. Throughout the show, my camera went snap snap snapping away. Love it! (although i might just have had irritated some folks behind me) and Charlene said that I could maybe sell some photos to the Qi Yu Wu fan club. ahaha this an idiotic picture of him spreading his hands. Overall I would say that my first Getai experience was a really memorable one and I certainly would love to catch another good one sometime. ANYONE Game to go with me? haha. Oh yes btw the 3 songs which they performed live in the soundtrack of 881 are really good. I went straight home to Youtube and d/l it cos stupid Charlene refuse to let me rip it off her cd. So go listen to them. Nice Nice!
This was taken below my house and in respect to the Chinese I just apoplogized to the ghosts for taking photos of their offerings.

Eventful Day

Yesterday I experienced first hand how dogs and cats communicate. It was a real eye-opener.... I mean ear-opener in the case of yesterday. "Hello TD Fabrics." "Ah yes. You can speak Hua Wen Yu ma?" ...... (silence) "Ke yi ah" ..... (after 1 min of conversation and not understanding) Kel:" Ni ke yi email ni de ji hua ma?"
Guy:"Eeeeemalle? Oh ke yi, ni xiao hui'er"
*at the background: shi shu sua ching cheong*
Lady:"Harlo. Ok ni de email shi shen me?"
Kel: "C"
Lady "C!"
Kel: "a"
Lady "A!"
Kel: "n"
Lady: "N!"
Kel: "d"
Lady: "D!"
Kel: "y"
Lady: "Y!"
Kel: "."
Lady: "Dot?!?"
Kel:"Dot... Dian"
Lady: "ok"
Kel:"l,i,m"
Lady:"Ni ke yi shuo man yi dian mah"
Kel: "hao de l.......i......m...."
Kel: "@"
Lady: "Ad?!? Naaa'er shi shen me ah?"
Kel: "@ shi zai number 2 de shang mian"
Lady: "Orhh zhi dao le... @..... Bu ru ni chuan zhen gei wo men hao ma?"
*Scratches my head..... chuan zhen? Whack lah should mean fax it over*
Kel: "Ok ni deng yi xia.... 6********"
Lady: " Xie xie"
My Chinese sucks and I'm so not proud of it... Need to improve!!! Anyway was pasting fabrics on printing paper when my boss asked me to file them up... Filing meaning I have to punch holes.... But fabrics are blocking so how?? Haha so I had to attach another piece of paper to all of them. And below is at the end. After work, met Tissa and Nepali ass Anil for dinner and pool. After that they decided to drag me for shisha. My 1st time wor! Haha as u can see below i dont know how to smoke that crap. I really didnt feel anything ( as in I expected to feel weird maybe?) shisha-ing. But it was a good guys hang out night (Tim you were supposed to join us!) with shisha and beer. Oh yes check out this cool trick Anil did with the cigarette whereby the smoke flows downwards instead of upwards. I heard it's a common trick but its my first time seeing it.

Backtracking

Rachel turned 2 Sundays ago! Just a caveat for everybody, do not eat at Paramount Hotel ever. The food is really really bad.

And also happy birthday Jason who we celebrated his birthday with last Wednesday. Haha as you can see I've been TRYING to put in effort to take photos of people. But still cannot make it lah. Need more practice taking people.
